Shinkan Jiu Jitsu.
Shinkan Jiu Jitsu Dojo was started in 1987 by Sensei Melonie Nagel.
Since those early days, the Dojo
has moved from home to home, we finally found our present training facility at Atlas Mall, Cnr Reier & Finch Rd Atlasville Boksburg, in 2001.
Shinkan Jiu Jitsu has established an extremely strong presence amongst the other Jiu Jitsu styles in South Africa. Our students are very easy to recognize amongst those from other schools. Our strong “family” environment and comradery shows as clear as day. Our school has a unique character that is evident as soon as you walk in the door.
This spirit shows it’s benefits when the medals are handed out. Shinkan has a proud history of producing a large amount of the Provincial and National (Proteas) Team members.
Shinkan is now under the ownership of Sensei Wayne Viola (2nd Dan). The dojo’s age –old ethic of being a welcoming, friendly environment, and yet with a strong work ethic has remained to this day.
A typical class will consist of a mixture of the three different “Ranges” of any combat situation. We define those Ranges as follows:
Stand-up: At this range, striking techniques are used as well as our own unique defense system that assists you when you opponent begins striking you. We teach a range of Kicks, Punches, head-butts, elbow strikes and knee strikes for you to use in your arsenal.
Clinch: This is when the combatants have grabbed hold of one another. Here we teach counter-clinching, as well as throwing, locking, striking and take-down techniques.
Ground: Many fights end up on the ground. Either one, or both of the combatants will at some point end up having to fight from the gorund. Here we teach a full grappling system, as well as strikes, chokes and locks so that you can stay in control of the situation.
